Thong Pha Phum National Park



Thong Pha Phum National Park is a natural area taken care by government officers, where in the area of this national park there are several attractions situated, such as Noen Chang Suek and Pilok Mine. Tourists who visit this national park will be able to see how beautiful of mountain range in western Thailand. Accommodation here is also available, so those who would like to stay very close to natural area will be satisfied. As its name indicates, this national park is located in Thong Pha Phum district.

Thong Pha Phum National Park covers an area of about 386,000 acres. The area is on the west of district city, next to Vachiralongkorn Dam. This area is next to western border and it is requested as a national park in Thailand for an excellent ecosystem for plants and living area of wild lives. This area was officially announced as Thong Pha Phum National Park, on 23th December 2009. It is 114th national Park in Thailand.

When the area of this national park connecting to areas nearby, they becomes very large forest because all sides of the area connected to preserved forests as follows:
- On the north, the area is connected to Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary
- On the south, the area is connected to mountain range and forest of Sai Yok National Park
- On the east, the area is connected to Khao Laem National Park
- On the west, the area is connected to Tra Now Sri mountain range, which is also connect to Myanmar

To visit Thong Pha Phum National Park, visitors need to take a Bus from Mochit 2, Bangkok, depart from 5 AM, because after get off the bus at Thong Pha Phum district, visitors have to take a yellow Baht Bus (Songthaew) at Thong Pha Phum market on 10.30 AM (not sure for the other time available). It will take about 2 hours to the national park.

Jokkadin Waterfall is a waterfall in Thong Pha Phum district, surrounded with mountains. It's quiet and beautiful with the fall flowing from 30-meters-high cliff. There are still not so many tourists coming to Kanchanaburi for this waterfall because it is quite far away when comparing to other waterfalls in this province. However, those who come to visit Thong Pha Phum district seem to be interested in this waterfall.

Khao Chang Phuak (Mountain) is a great attraction for visitors who like to challenge an adventure journey. Not only visitors need to walk up on steep way to the topmost of the mountain, but just before the mountain peak, there is a challenging spot that make many of visitors decided not to move forward also. On the top of the mountain, visitors can see a beautiful scene which will make them forgot how exhaust they are. Khao Chang Phuak is located at Thong Pha Phum district.

Etong village is an attraction for touching traditions and cultures of Burmese people, since this village is situated near the Thai-Burmese border. With quietness, natural atmosphere and unique local traditions unlike anywhere in Thailand, Etong village is one of an interesting place for tourists to visit. Fresh seafood can also be seen as a highlight here because of good taste with cheap price. It is also an opportunity to look around a few other attractions not far from the village.

Somsak Mining, locally known as Forest Glade Home at the present, is an interesting attraction for look around old mining area and tasting cake by Glade, the owner of the house. Visitors would be amazed when arriving in this attraction because it is like a small house in the forest center. It is really popular for Thai visitors who like to challenge the unstable street leading to this place. It is located at Thong Pha Phum district, in rural area though.

Pilok Mine used to be one of the largest tin and gold mining neighborhood in Thailand. At the present, it becomes, however, a tourist destination to enjoy old objects and mining atmosphere remained from a few decades ago. Those who visit this place will also go to enjoy attractions around the area as well. The street leading to Pilok Mine is quite steep and rough, so it is recommended to used 4-wheeled-drive vehicle to visit this place.

Nern Chang Suek is one of interesting places in Kanchanaburi because it is the view spot on the mountain, Thiland-Burma border. Stunning panoramic view attracts a lot of visitors to come here, and in the winter, it becomes even more interesting due to a chance of seeing sea of cloud mingling with mountainous waves bathing in morning sun ray. Nern Chang Suek is not far from Pilok Minning at Thong Pha Phum district.
