Etong village is an attraction for touching traditions and cultures of Burmese people, since this village is situated near the Thai-Burmese border. With quietness, natural atmosphere and unique local traditions unlike anywhere in Thailand, Etong village is one of an interesting place for tourists to visit. Fresh seafood can also be seen as a highlight here because of good taste with cheap price. It is also an opportunity to look around a few other attractions not far from the village.
Etong village was built approximately 70 years ago, at the same time as mining became popular in this area. The name of this village, Etong, has been distorted from "Nut Eng Tong", meaning deity village on the mountain.
Those who would like to visit this village need to be aware that it is not a place with adequate facilities. In this village, there is a water source, a market, a school situated and a few shops as well as restaurants. Convenient store and any entertaining places like many cities in Thailand are definitely not available here. However, a few resorts and home stays are still available for visitors who prefer to stay in the village.
With the location not too far away from Andaman Sea, Burma, approximate 60 kilometers, Etong Village becomes a great place to taste seafood with inexpensive price. Visitors can choose between cooked seafood or to buy seafood material for own cook (a little cheaper price).
To visit Etong Village, Thong Pha Phum district, visitors need to take a Bus from Mochit 2, Bangkok, depart from 5 AM, because after get off the bus at Thong Pha Phum district, visitors have to take a yellow Baht Bus (Songthaew) at Thong Pha Phum market on 10.30 AM (not sure for the other time available). It will take about 2 hours and 20 minutes to Etong Village. However, it would be much easier to visit this place as a tourist group (if available).
