Rayong Aquarium is an attraction for any kind of ages, especially family group of visitors. There are a lot of sea creatures for visitors to look around or learn how they live. Both indoor and outdoor sections are separated for visitors to look around. For indoor section, visitors can see various beautiful marine lives in 43 tanks, while the outdoor one is for ponds of shark and turtle, a shell museum, and an exhibition of fisherman life as well as local fishing tools. This aquarium is also clean and well organized enough to look around easily. Lastly, one of great points here is that the entrance fee is pretty cheap even for foreign visitors.
This public aquarium is managed under the collaboration between the Department of Fisheries of Thailand and the Eastern Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center. Its objective is certainly for learning more about ecosystem and living of marine animals, especially hardly seen ones. This really helps to an opportunity for research about marine biology and behavior of sea creatures.
All of 43 tanks located in the aquarium are also labeled with name in both English and Thai and picture of marine life in the tank. Unfortunately, the detail about what live inside the tank is provided only in Thai language. No doubt, the most attractive one here is transparent tunnel. When walking into a tunnel of this large aquarium, visitors can closely enjoy looking at a variety of fish, including mangrove forest lives, such as cuttlefish, horseshoe, crab, and so on.
The outdoor aquarium here is also interesting. There are large species of fish, such as shark and ray, and different types of turtles available. Marine lives living underwater, such as sea cucumber and starfish, are also provided here. Apart from living creatures, there is also a museum to present fossils and information of extinct sea animals.
Note that, in the case you feel hungry or want to look around a local market, there is Ban Phe Market located not far from aquarium, approximately 5 minute by car. In this market, you can find purchase preserved seafood such as shrimp paste, fish sauce, dried shrimp, and so on.
To go to Rayong Aquarium, after arriving in Bus Terminal Rayong, visitors can take a Songthaew (Rayong - Ban Phe direction) at the city. This Songthaew will pass Rayong Aquarium, so you can get off the bus and enjoy Aquarium.
