Don Rak War Cemetery is situated next to Highway number 323, not far from Kanchanburi Train Station. This cemetery, known by local residences as "Pha Cha Angkrit", is constructed on the area of about 7 acres, after the Second World War. The war prisons who died during the construction of the Death Railway at that time were buried here. There were in fact about 7,000 dead bodies in the cemetery.
Not only is Don Rak War Cemetery quite large, it is also kept clean and well decorated. There are a plenty of flowers and trees around the area. On each grave is a brass plate with the dead person’s name, age and country, engraved. Visitors can look around this cemetery by walking between the graves.
This cemetery opens everyday without the entrance fee, but visitors need to pay respect to the people who sacrificed their live during the war by not to walk over the grave, not to take suitable photos, and not to bring food to eat in the cemetery.
To visit this war cemetery, visitors can take a train from Hualamphong, Bangkok Train Station, to Kanchanaburi Train Station. After arriving in Kanchanaburi, walk a little from the main road (approximately 5 minutes), and then across the street to this Don Rak War Cemetery without an entrance fee required.
